Hello! I’m Jeremy

I’m making my way towards becoming a full time woodworker. Let me tell you a bit about myself and how I got to where I am. I was born and raised in rural Southern Louisiana. It all started when I was young, always building things with Lego’s, Kinects, and Tinker Toys. I have always been interested in building things. From helping my dad around our house, to working with my uncles laying flooring and running electrical I really enjoyed working with my hands and having the rewarding feeling of seeing projects come to fruition. I sort of forgot about that interest in building and decided that I wanted to go to school to become a nurse. Nursing ended up not working out for me and I decided to hang up my stethoscope and get a general studies degree and figure out what to do with it afterwards. . While I was finishing up my general studies degree, I was working for a commercial cleaning company. One day my boss called me to help with a different type of job, moving one of his friends from Gainesville, GA to Savannah, GA. It was this job that I learned about this strange thing that people do, which was hiking nearly 2200 miles from Georgia to Maine on the Appalachian Trail. This immediately became an obsession and something that I felt that I needed to do after graduation. In February 2016 I began my thru-hike of the Appalachian trail, not realizing how much this adventure would change my life. I met many fantastic people from all over the world and all walks of life. A few days into the hike I met my wife and after completing the trail together, I moved to Pittsburgh, PA to see where life would take me. I had trouble deciding what to do with the rest of my life. I tried working for a few different companies, doing community outreach, coaching tennis and soccer at a local school, and even went back to school with the idea that I was going to stick to what I spent so long learning, healthcare. It was at that point that I began to realize that I just did not want to work in healthcare anymore, I wanted to build! I worked with a construction company for a while and learned a lot about the trade as well as what I was most interested in, woodworking. The pandemic came around and I was laid off for a short while. I was able to start doing a little more woodworking for fun and decided that I would go off on my own and use what I learned remodeling houses to work towards becoming a woodworker. I was able to save up enough to start buying tools that would help me pursue a woodworking career. I will continue with remodeling jobs and fill in woodworking jobs as much as possible until I am able to give all of my attention to woodworking.
